Lola A Pendant Light – wood veneer designer light by LZF Lamps Valencia

Sculptural elegance in real wood, made in the LZF manufactory in Valencia. Die Lola A Pendant Light von LZF Lamps is a handmade Pendant Light made of thin, translucent wood veneer. By day it is a sculptural design object with a lively grain – switched on, it transforms into a warmly glowing light sculpture that bathes any room in filtered, very cosy light.

Lola A is the sconce version – with its round, calm basic form, it fits harmoniously into many living situations.

Design & inspiration

The Lola family is one of the most versatile LZF collections – with pendant, floor, table, wall and sconce versions in several shade sizes. The round, calm basic form translates the LZF material concept into a universally applicable design vocabulary.

The designer – Ray Power

Ray Power is an Irish-born designer who has been working with LZF Lamps in Valencia since 1998. His designs are characterised by the geometric clarity with which he develops expressive three-dimensional forms from flat wood veneer.

Material & workmanship – the LZF manufactory

The wood veneer used is only a few tenths of a millimetre thin – so thin that the light of the lamp shines through it and makes the natural grain of the wood visible to everyone. Behind this seemingly simple effect lies an elaborate in-house process: the veneer sheets are pressed, hardened, cut and shaped using the characteristic LZF technique. Every step is done by hand, making each shade unique.

LZF uses wood veneer from FSC-certified sources. The coloured veneers are dyed with lightfast, low-solvent stains, so the wood stays alive and breathable. When switched on, the shade turns into a warm, vibrant light source – not a glaring point of light, but a filtered, very cosy light.

Use & effect

The Lola A Pendant Light comes into its own above the dining table (suspension height approx. 70–90 cm above the table edge), above a coffee table or kitchen island. As a multiple cluster above long tables, in a stairwell or in open-plan living and dining areas, it is also a very atmospheric solution. Recommendation: warm white LED light bulb (2200–2700 K) for a cosy light.

About LZF Lamps – wood veneer from Valencia

LZF Lamps is a Spanish manufactory from Valencia, founded in 1994 by Mariví Calvo and Sandro Tothill. From a small workshop, LZF has grown into one of the world’s most renowned wood veneer manufactories for designer lights. The lights are still made entirely in Valencia to this day – each shade is unique, shaped by the individual grain of the wood.
