Design & inspiration of the Baluna series

The Balunaseries is a design by the Croatian design studio Grupa. Characteristic features are the triple-coated opal glass diffuser and the rotating shade made of powder-coated steel, which allows the light to be directed precisely in the room. The form is deliberately reduced – a clear glass body held by a minimalist metal structure. This reduction is typical of Grupa: no ornamentation, no fashionable effects, just the essential geometry of a good design object.

The Baluna family includes Pendant, ceiling, Table-, Wand- and Chandeliersversions. All models share the same iconic glass body, combined with different metal mounts or arms depending on the function.

About Grupa Studio – designer lights from Croatia

Grupa is a Croatian design studio founded in 2007 and based in Zagreb. The brand is known for designer lights that combine formal clarity with craftsmanship. Every light is made in Croatia – often in small series, with particular attention to the choice of materials, finishing details and durability. Grupa lights can be found today in restaurants, hotels, galleries and private homes worldwide.

With every model, the studio’s designers focus on clear reduction: no ornamentation, no fashionable effects, but geometry, material and light. This approach makes Grupa lights timeless design pieces that work in both modern and classic interiors.

Material & workmanship – handmade in Croatia

All Grupa lights are made in small series in Croatia. The materials used – powder-coated steel, mouth-blown opal glass, coated aluminium, high-quality fabrics – are carefully selected and processed. Powder coatings are scratch-resistant and colourfast; glass diffusers are coated several times to create even, glare-free light. Screw connections, steel supports and suspensions are precisely milled and assembled.

This craftsmanship makes every Grupa light a long-lasting design object that still looks as good as on the first day even after many years.

Use & effect

Grupa lights are particularly suitable for living, dining and sleeping areas where a warm, calm light is desired. Pendant lights set accents above dining tables, coffee tables or kitchen islands; wall and ceiling lights serve as atmospheric accompanying lights; floor lamps complement seating areas or reading corners. Grupa models are also a popular choice in hotels, restaurants and galleries – the timeless design language suits very different architectures.
