If Cecilie Manz is one thing, it is a master of simple expression: a truly iconic form with a clear allusion to the past, combined with forward-looking elements. That is how the popular Caravaggio lamp series presents itself, and so does Mingus Black, Cecilie Manz’s new contribution to the Lightyears‘ collection. And yet Mingus has nothing to do with Caravaggio. The Pendant Light stands on its own, and the designer deliberately worked on a completely new, unique look. The idea was to develop a simple, technologically uncomplicated pendant light that is suitable for modern energy-saving lamps, forms a good light source and can be used for many purposes.
Mingus is made of aluminium and lacquered in six matt shades. In addition to white, there are five other colours: blue-black, neutral grey, smoky moss green, a light green reminiscent of celadon, and an off-white reminiscent of limestone. The shades vary depending on the incidence of light and take on the colour of their surroundings. With several lights in different shades, they interact with each other and may create new tones.
The form is organic, even though it springs from four clear facets. The upper part of the light is flat and fitted with an acrylic holder that lets the light shine through, so the glowing ring casts a little light onto the cable. Mingus White has a white fabric cable, while the other pendant lights come with a light grey fabric cable. Mingus is available in two sizes, Ø22 cm and Ø34 cm, and in the following shades: White, Nearly Black, Very Grey, Pale Moss, Light Celadon and Dusty Limestone.
